Twist Two and A Half Weeks Old

Hey yall,
I know it has been a while since I have blogged but since I am wearing my hair in twists I haven't done much with them. It has been raining like crazy in Atlanta so they have had some major shrinkage ( the went from boob length to shoulder length tmi, sorry I know lol). I haven't styled them much but I to have a cute style planned for next week so stay tuned. Ok so the pics are from Christmas my mom and I went to South Carolina but I spent Christmas morning with David. The first pic is David and I on Christmas morning. The second is my mom, aunt and cousin. The third, is myself and my uncle he is so funny I swear he cracks everybody up. ***Sorry this post is so late, I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and Happy New Year!!!***

Decking The Halls

Hey yall,
So last night at the last moment I decided to put up the Christmas tree. David and I put on some Christmas music and broke out the decorations, we finished off the night with a steamy cup of cocoa. I love the holidays and we had so much fun, the tree is small but we dressed it up nice and had a great night!

Finding The Perfect Cupcake

Hey yall,
So I have told yall before about my insane sweet tooth and cupcakes are my weakness. So last week I stopped off at the mall by my house and while walking around I came across this cupcake shop, I can't remember the name which is fine because the cupcake wasn't the best (see picture number one). Saturday David and I took Louie to the dog park and then had lunch at Chipotle and right next to it was a cupcake shop, I had to go in. It was called GiGi's Cupcakes and the presentation was amazing I was so excited and once we got home I cut into it and was let down, the red velvet was brown I know it's chocolate but I expected red (see picture number two). Finally the best was the last one, a red velvet cupcake and a chocolate bananna cupcake from the Patio(see pictures three and four)! Yall, these last ones where so amazing I had dinner with my sister last week and she brought me these from a bakery by her job and I was thinking yesterday about making the 30 minute drive to pick up more, but I tried to remain in control lol.

Happy Belated Birthday To Me

Hey yall,
I know it has been a while but I came back with lots of pics. So last week was my birthday and as I mentioned before my birthday dinner was on the Saturday before my birthday and then I went on vacation from work and I am proud to say that I haven't done much of anything. My braid out was fab that Saturday as yall can see in the third pic. But I also have to admit that I haven't washed or done anything else with my hair since two weeks ago. So at this moment I am sitting with a pre-poo mixture on my hair and I plan to wash it out later band my hair and get ready to install a set of  mini twists for this weekend, which will most likely stay in until after New Year's at least. Stay tuned for the second post for more pics.
XOXO,
TwistedMarie
P.S. I am 26 years young...time really flies lol

***Ok the first pic is a bouquet of roses from my sister that she gave me on my birthday, they are so pretty they don't even look real . The second pic is my good friend/ co-worker Taija and her boyfriend and she is gonna be a Mommy soon I can't wait (I hope it is a girl...she will be such a little diva) The third pic is of course me and my braid out a little blurry I know and of course  David(we had all been drinking at this point lol) The last pic hmm...should I really explain it!?!? Well that is shots of sake, my sister's best friend and get this our waiter... he took shots with us lol smh I know only at Rusan's in Atlanta( that is a different post lol)

My Quest For the Perfect Braid Out

Hey Curlies,
Happy Thanksgiving everybody! So this week for my hair has been a job and a half. Sunday night I decided to do my braid out for the week since my birthday party is this weekend. Well I tried something new and braided the side of my hair and then did the rest in braids for a braid out (see picture number one), well when I got up Monday morning and went outside it was so foggy and then my walk from the parking deck at work left me with giant sized hair. I was so upset my hair swelled and I was forced to pull it back into a low bun. I thought well that was a fail but I have a few days until the party so I tried again.
The second time which I tried to do my next braid out was on Wednesday and when I took it down, the second pic was the result and from my face you can see that I didn't like it, one side was defined while the second was...just. well. there. I felt blah about it but allowed my hair to be puffy.
Last night I thought I have to get this braid out together because my party is coming up and I don't want it to look blah again. So last night I braided my hair into twelve braids and then twisted the ends  down with two strand twists...it was a hit! I was so happy now I just have my fingers crossed that I can repeat this again for Saturday lol. I plan to take more pictures today but as of 5:30 we haven't eaten yet. I hope yall have a wonderful holiday!!!

Repurposed!!!

Hey yall,
So a few months back Alex from the Good Hair blog and Lush In Flats posted a video on youtube about reusing candle jars and I loved the idea. For this you would need a candle jar that has burned down and then place it in boiling water. Once the wax has melted pour it into a heat resistant container and then clean the jar really well of any left over candle wax. You can then use the jar to store just about anything, I use them in my bathroom to keep my vanity neat. I went one step further and placed the animal print ribbon on the rim, I picked up the ribbon from Walmart for about two dollars. Now to take one step even more in the first picture is actually a nacho cheese jar that I opened and used last week and since the lid wasn't my style I kept it without the lid and placed lip gloss and lipstick in it. The middle picture is a smaller candle jar with the lid that came from Bath and Body Works. The third picture is an old vase that I got from the dollar store and placed half of my nail polish collection in it. Cute! I love this idea and they are very cute on display.

Wash and Go Ponytail

Hey yall,
So last week was wash day for me and I decided to do a last wash and go hairstyle. It has been starting to get chilly here in Atlanta and there is no way I will be walking around with wet hair. So on Monday I washed my hair with Castile Soap and then used TJ's Norish Conditioner to detangle and as a leave in. I then pulled my hair up into a high ponytail and used a quater size of Shea Moisture's Curling Souffle. I wore my hair like this the whole week and it was the best style since it rained a lot last week.

Sevananda Natural Foods Market

Hey yall,
I almost hit the floor when I saw this huge block of Shea butter on Saturday for seven dollars! (lol ok I know I am dramatic) But no on Saturday I got in the car and drove down to Little 5 here in Atlanta  a trendy cool vibe type of place and their is a natural food store there called Sevananda. I got a few things besides this block of Shea, I also got handmade soap and Castile soap to shampoo my hair all of this came to a total of 11 dollars yall! I was so pleased with this experience they are the best neighborhood store, here is the link if you are in the Atlanta area and haven't been.

One Fab Braid Out!!!!

Hey yall,
So Saturday night after I rinsed my hair I decided to try out the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle now I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on this product some have loved it and others have said it left their hair feeling like a grease ball. So I headed to Target and decided to try it myself, I thought if I hate it completely I can always return it. So I decided to do a braid out since they don't normally hold well on my hair I did 11 braids total with a part straight down the middle( it is more of a permanent part since that is how I wear my hair) Anyhoo, I am normally heavy handed with products but since this one had a set similar to firm jello I decided to apply it lightly. Once I finished braiding I placed my bonnet on and went to sleep. Of course as with all my braid outs my hair was still wet when I woke up(well damp) so I sat under the dryer for 20 minutes and then took my hair down before leaving home. I love the results yall I had a very defined braid pattern and my hair felt very moisturized and fluffy. Once I got home last night from dinner I re-braided the braids with no extra product and went to bed. So I can tell yall I learned an important lesson just because something works for someone else's hair ( or doesn't) will not mean that you will have the same results so try it if you want, but let me know how it works for yall!!! I adore the results and at 12 dollars it is a great styler :)

Rahssoul Clay and I

Hey yall,
So the braids are out I took them down Saturday night and I knew I needed to show my hair some tlc so I decided to do a rahssoul clay treatment. I used it with a cup of coconut milk, cocoa butter and shea butter. Once I made it into a paste I applied it to clean hair and went about my business. I left it on my hair for 45 minutes and then rinsed. Below are the pics of it on my hair. You can mix anything you desire to it but I just grabbed these two butters. :)

Three Strand Twist Takedown

Hey yall,
I just took my twists down it has been about a week and a half but yesterday I took Louie for a walk and it rained so I knew they would be frizzy soon. I actually like the look they held up pretty well,I will definitely do these again in the future. I plan to wash my hair tomorrow and then band it for my next protective style. I plan on trying to do a braided up do which should be fun to say the least, I know how to braid but it has been years since I have tried to braid my own hair so let's hope it goes well.
XOXO,
TwistedMarie

**I love the look and it looks like the front is finally catching up with the back, it seems to grow the slowest**

Crazy For Eyeshadow

Hey yall,
So about two weeks ago I was in Target and saw this eyeshadow palette on sale for $4.25 and grabbed it I thought what a great deal 12 shadows, a liner and instructions for a natural eye look. Well I got home and my sister made a surprise visit and we went on a mini road trip( but she forgot my camera at home -_-) so I didn't have time to try out the colors. A few days later when I got ready to try out some new looks I opened the palette and it was broken. I took it back to Target and then headed for the section where there had been tons of palettes a few days ago to find nothing at all, so I jumped in the car and headed to the next Target and nothing. I thought I knew of another Target and drove about 15 minutes to the other Target and got lost since I have no sense of direction, after an hour of driving around I headed home and decided to order it from the E.L.F website. The E.L.F website wanted to charge me 6.00 for shipping (yikes) and since I am crazy cheap I went to the Target website and found it and only paid 99 cents for shipping. Anxiously I tracked my eyeshadow online expecting it to arrive on my off day and it came early on a Friday 10 minutes before I got home from the post office (big let down!) So the next day I expected a visit from the post office and never saw my shadow, until I saw that it was being held at the post office (I thought no problem I will pick it up after work the next day.) So that is exactly what I did and marched right into the post office and was told that my package wasn't there, but at the post office in our small downtown the same place where I was at on Friday when I first missed the package. How crazy right? LOL it took me almost two weeks to get this shadow and I still haven't tried out the colors yet,but at least it isn't broken...I did check that. The things we do for products right!?!?
XOXO,
TwistedMarie

P.S. look at this matte polish I got, I love the color but it chips after three days with no topcoat :(

Three-Strand Twists

Hey yall,
I know it's been a while since yall have gotten a post but I can honestly say I wasn't doing much with my hair the past week and a half. We are now in the last month for The Good Hair's Blog Protective Style Challenge I must say I had gotten comfortable with just wearing my hair in a bun. The other day I was at work with nothing to do and came up on a post from Beads,Braids and Beyond blog and saw a style on rope twists/sister twists. I just loved the styles that Nikki does on A's hair so I thought once I got home from work I would try it. Well I washed and detangled my hair last night and then placed it into four banded ponytails and went to bed. This morning I grabbed my Safi Hair Care CLB and begun to twists and well they didn't look to cute on me. Nikki has a video that she posted on her blog which explains how to do the twists and after watching I still couldn't get them to look right, so that idea went out the window. I was about to put my hair back into my go to bun when I remembered that I taught myself how to three strand twist my hair a few months ago. I know what yall are thinking, but it isn't a braid that I am talking about you literally take three sections of hair and wrap them around each other without braiding the hair. I watched a movie called Skin while working on my hair and let's say that I got distracted because one section of the twists are huge while the rest are medium sized but hey it happens ( the movie was about a black woman born to both white parents in South Africa during apartheid, it was awesome to say the least!) But anyhoo, once I finished I was happy with the some what medium sized twists since I normally only do two strand twists. I plan to keep these in for the next two weeks at least since the weather is starting to cool down nicely here in Atlanta, I can get back to my occasional twist outs next month!

Twisted Updo #2

Hey yall,
So after I rinsed my hair I decided to do a quick style that I could wear to an outdoor party and for the rest of the week. For this look I parted my hair in the middle and did mini twists on damp hair and then pulled the rest into a high bun after twisting it in sections. I thought about pinning the twists up but this look won, I used Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to twist the bangs. I plan to keep my hair in this style until next Saturday's wash day. See the pics below to see the sides and front view! Enjoy:)

Jasmin and Henna Fluff-Ease x Two

Hey yall,
So Saturday night my hair was dry and a mess to say the least. I reached for my Jasmin and Henna Fluff-eaze by LUSH for a somewhat henna gloss. I did a review on this before but I will list a few bullet points on what I did.
-I applied Fluff-eaze to dry hair
-smoothed it down to the ends
-piled my hair on top of my head in a bun
-then placed a shower cap on with a scarf and left it there overnight

The next morning I rinsed my hair and then styled. I used up the rest of the pot so either I will bite the bullet and pay for another (21.95 ouch) or use the henna that I have and make my own henna gloss.

Off the Shoulder T-Shirt

Hey yall,
So I still haven't gotten my camera back yet(I think my sister is delighted in knowing that she can have all the pictures that I never share!) But I was able to steal this off of her facebook, I cute off the neck of the shirt to make it wider along with the sleeves and the bottom. This was a quick project and I actually loved the look, even my cousin wanted to cut up her shirt lol. Since I didn't want my bra strap to show I made sure to wear a black tank under it and this was a hit! Enjoy
XOXO,
TwistedMarie
P.S. Look how cute my sister is with those flowers in her hair !!!Oh and she cut her shirt too but in a different style to almost make it look like a tank.

Going Back in Time

Hey Folks,
I just wanted to share a few of my old pics with yall. I have been natural for three years and I will admit that I have came a long way. Below in the first picture is my hair in a bun although you can't see the back, I remember being so happy since the winter was coming and this would allow me to do protective styles (also look at Louie as a puppy lol!) The second is a set of twists and front flat twists. The third picture is my first low ponytail( the products in front of me indicate how much of a product junkie I was lol) and the very last is my hair right after I did the big chop! I hope you all enjoy these pics :)

High Bun

Hey yall,
Ok so that banded ponytail lasted for a few days, which I assumed that it would. Once I took the bands of I rubbed a bit of my LUSH R&B through my hair, the middle picture is my hair stretched and the other two pics are of me rocking a high bun. I love high buns they always make me feel very fancy, but I am sure that yall can see that from the last picture lol! Enjoy! :)
