Lost Files

I'm a picture loving girl and I'm sure we are all guilty of having tons of selfies that weren't post worthy right!?! Well here are some of mine enjoy

End Of the Year Ramblings and 6th Day Hair

So 2014 is coming to a close and I have to say that it has been an amazing year! I have truly learned so much and just want to thank each and everyone of you that read, comment and share my blog with people everyday! I remember when I first posted an entry and then when I felt like I was talking to myself(before I discovered blog statistics) lol. But you guys have been amazing and I wanted to post my famous list of things that 2014 has taught  me.
1) one day I will master a roller set on my hair I just need to keep at it.
2) dry sets for twists and braids always give me the best results.
3) polishing my nails two hours before bed is a big no no!
4) I stepped out of my comfort zone for 10 out of the 12 months this year and it felt great. I have always been such a planner and am learning to allow myself to live life more, relax and enjoy it!
5) I will never apologize for my insane makeup and nail polish collection...once a product junkie always a product junkie.
6) I have about 4 friends and until this year did I realize less is better...they have become my family
7) although I love a beat face(makeup) and a fresh mani...a smile may be my favorite thing to wear everyday.
8) we all have flaws but I have learned to accept them and love them (some days I stumble)
9) I'm a homebody and can really enjoy myself at home but still enjoy getting dolled up and seeing the town.
10) brunch is awesome and I need to figure out a way to have it everyday.
I hope you guys have an awesome and amazing New Year!

Three Strand Twist Out

Last Saturday I decided to re-twist my hair but didn't feel like washing it. I thought a three strand twist out would be an awesome way to get a defined twist out. I placed my hair in about 20 twists and took them down this morning. I only used Ecostyler Krystal and Pink for this twist out, but forgot to take a picture with the twist in. Merry Christmas love bugs!

Braid Out, Plaid and Glasses

I promised I would post a pic of my hair! This was a braid out about a week old, I took pics today of course it's frizzy but it is stretched. I used Krystal and Pink Ecostyler gel and placed my hair in 8 braids...and of course like normal to maintain it at night I braid my hair back up and then don a large satin bonnet!

P.S. The glasses are from Warby Parker, they are such an awesome company for every pair that they sell they donate a pair to someone in need kind like the concept of Toms.  I purchased this pair back in November and order two more pairs yesterday. All glasses are 95 bucks for single vision and they even let you try before you buy! Check them out if you are in need!

Crochet Braids

So I installed a set of chrocet braids for my Mom about two weeks ago and wanted to share the look with y'all. I know I haven't posted much about my hair but things have been beyond hectic with the holidays(but hair post are coming soon). Anyhoo, I braided my Mom's in about twelve cornrows and then installed the hair I used Freetress Soft Wave in the color 1b and 2 for a subtle highlight. This is her second install the first was about two months ago but I forgot to blog about it. There are tons of how to videos on YouTube but basically you use a latch hook and latch the hair into the braids. This has been my Mom's go to style because she is about to wear it up or down and not worry about it being damaging to her hair because the braids aren't too tight. So this would of course be a great protective style or even good for transitioning hair. My Mom sleeps with her hair in a bonnet and then shakes it down in the morning and is out the door. She still takes care of her hair underneath and applies oil when needed.

The top picture is her current install of Freetress Soft Water Wave in 1b and 2. The bottom picture is chrochet braids too but with the Jumbo Braid Kankalon hair in the color 2 and 33. I got both brands of hair from my local beauty supply store in Atlanta. Both brands of hair are relatively cheap since the hair is synthetic. The last install took about 3 hours the first took a lot longer since it was my first try.

Product Review: Lottabody

So about these new Lottabody products...my hair is super moisturized! Ok let me back up and start over I picked up the wrap lotion to do a roller set months ago and have used it from time to time on my hair. It's great because it gives me super hold but not hard and crunchy hair. Anyhoo, the mini twists came out last weekend and I decided to do a simple twist out and figured pulling it up would be a good option. My hair has remained moisturized and I only re-twist it at night with no product. These two products are amazing...it's almost been two week since I have washed my hair and it still is defined and frizz free. Run don't walk to pick it up!

Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone:October

So I am still rocking  the mini twists, and I plan to take them down next weekend. Anyhoo, I took a vacation to go and  visit my Dad for a few days last month, I was excited for months but when the day came I was beyond nervous about flying by myself and then driving alone. My nerves were bad the whole plane ride there but I got it together before getting to the airport. I hoped a flight to DC and then drove all by myself to Maryland, it was a two hour drive and I had such a great time seeing my Dad.

Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone: September

I know I am a bit behind with posts but things have been really crazy for me, and honestly I can't think of anything that I did different last month...really the whole month was a blur to me. My close friend got married and we had several last minute touches that we needed to finish up before the wedding, but here is a pic of she and I at the wedding. P.S.the mini twists are back...stay tuned for a pic

Twist Out

I know I haven't had many updates about my hair, because I have been super busy(nothing new) and am trying to wait to style it for my good friend's wedding this weekend. But anyhoo, here is a twist out with some eyeshadow on the end. I'm still on the fence about adding it to my hair for this weekend.
Xx
P.S. Yes I have on a shirt...even though I know how it looks

Attempted Flexi Rod Set

So my very good friend is getting married in a few weeks and I have been dying to get dolled up and have a great time. I have been saying for months how I wanted to straighten my hair again, but I know that I do not want it bone straight for fear that it won't revert back to curly so I refuse to let anyone touch it but myself. Anyhoo. Friday night I washed my  hair and set it in 14 flexi rods using Lottaboy wrapping lotion and the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil leave in and some Ecostyler. My hair took for ever to dry, but I figured that I could sleep in the flexi rods...big mistake! My head was tight and uncomfortable from the flexi rods so I hardly slept, I was up super early hoping and praying that my hair was dry. I sat under the hooded dry for what seemed like hours but it was only an hour and 15 minutes. The front came out great but the back was wavy with a spiral curl on the ends. I smoothed my hair with a flat iron and pulled it in a bun. Overall, I'm pretty pleased I think my hair came out good for it to not be completely dry...I'm rocking the bun this week and then will try again soon.

TwistedMarie
P.S. Excuse the pjs in the photos I was beyond sleep, the last pic is of my bun today!

Hmmm not sure why this never posted but...here it is from a few weeks ago

Randomness

So no new hair updates because I came down with a horrible cold on Thursday and spent the last few days in bed. I'm beyond upset because that cold couldn't have come at a worst time...I was headed to the beach this weekend...but had to stay home. Anyhoo, I snapped a pic of my almost organized makeup collection...I know it's a lot.

Twisted Up...Again

So the semi straight hair didn't last long, I washed my hair last week and then twisted with Ecostyler Krystal. I have been keeping my hair up in a scarf at night to keep it looking fresh, I did also realize that I have been touching my hair way too much and that seems to cause it to frizz up a lot faster than it should...I'm working in keep my hands out of my hair and flipping it ( I have no clue were that habit came from lol)

Stepping Outside Of My Comfort Zone: August

Ok so I am a few days late, but as mentioned before in a few posts my good friend is getting married and so I have been super busying running around with her. Anyhoo, I attempted several bold and bright lipsticks this month. Its no secret that I am into makeup but I am almost always caught with neutral makeup, simply because it works and looks nice with everything. I wore a red lip to work and a bright pink last weekend. I of course didn't get any photos in it, but will attempt to re-create the look and get a few pictures of it.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Review

Ok so I caved in and had to buy this product, because my close friend is a product junkie and wouldn't stop raving about how awesome this product is. I told myself that I would check only one CVS and if they didn't have it then it wasn't meant to be ( I refused to drive all around the city in search for it) So of course I let out a slight squel when I saw only one left on the self. Anyhoo, I washed my hair last Sunday and decided  to three strand twist since the humidity has been out of control in Atlanta lately. Y'all!! Like OMG this stuff is awesome the slip is like no other and the peppermint tingle on my scalp was refreshing! I left my hair in the twists until Thursday  and couldn't believe the amount of moisture in my hair and how soft it felt. I plan on this being in heavy rotation! So run don't walk to pick it up, it definitely lived up to the hype, and it is buy one get one 50% off at CVS this week!!!

Wash n Go Ponytail

So this big and ridiculously huge ponytail is brought to you by  Ecostyler gel the Krystal kind. Umm this picture is of day 3 hair, at night all I do is lean my hair down and tie a scarf over it to sleep and shake it out in the morning. I think I'm becoming a wash n go girl lol :)

P.S. Oh and the bottom picture is an up close photo of the henna

Stepping Outside Of My Comfort Zone: July

So I didn't get a chance to actually document in pictures what I did this month, but I am more than excited to share it with y'all. First off I am not normally a girl that can be seen in a dress especially because I have eczema and have quite a few scars on my legs from it. But that didn't stop me from spending part of my time in sundress, maxi dress and even a few work dresses this month. I have decided that I would just suck up my nervousness and no longer be self conscience about the old scars on my legs. I didn't take any pictures this month but now that I feel better, I plan on keeping the habit up.

Return Of The Henna

I know it has been forever, actually I'm not even sure how long it has been since I used henna...but I'm back. I whipped up my mix last Thursday and the applied it Friday night. I used the usual of course henna, green tea and lemon juice. I left it in overnight and then set large twists on soaking wet hair. Last night I rolled the twists on flexirods and then took them down this morning. The result...smooth and bouncy curls. I pineappled it tonight and then plan on washing again in a few days.

Mastering the Perfect Twists

So I know it has been a while since I have posted any updates about my hair, so here it is. I was in need of a serious protective style to give myself and my hair a much needed break. I co-washed my hair and then place into four large twists. I grabbed a jar of pink Ecostyler gel and begun to twists. These twists below took me about two hours to complete. So I decided to come up with a pros and cons list of a wet twists set vs. a dry twists set...
Wet Twist Set
-quick
-wet hair is easier to twist and can use less products
-can be easily washed
-twists outs look great
-but the shrinkage is insane
Dry Twist Set
- last much longer than a wet set
-eliminates shrinkage
-the hair is stretched so it, has a tendency to get frizzy quick
-trying to do a twist out normally won't work since my hair didn't get a chance to set
In all, I think I like both sets it just depends on what I plan on doing with my hair, when I need something quick a wet set always wins.

TwistedMarie

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone: June

Sorry this post is a few days late, but I have been a bit busy and well things are always crazy during the summer. Anyhoo, I tried sushi this month, I went out with my sister and a few friends and everybody else at the table ordered it, so I figured why not. Ummm it definitely wasn't what I expected...but I finished it. I just think it's something you either love or hate lol.
XOXO,
TwistedMarie
P.S. I'm wearing my hair in a twist out from the twists I rocked last week...I have been really lazy with my hair these past two weeks. But Sunday will be my next wash day.

Twists Set On Flexirods

So this maybe my go to style for the summer, I tried the wash n gos but in 90 degree weather...I can't take my hair all over my head. So I washed my hair and used the Ecostyler pink to set my twist and then rolled them on flexirods. Last night I re-rolled my hair on the flexirods. I have learned that since my hair is thick the less moisture I have on it for a flexirod set the better. Today my hair held a strong curl and I just plan on pin curling it tonight to sleep.

Revisiting The Wash n Go: Summer Edtion

So I know I did a wash in go last year in September but one in the warmer months seemed like it would be the perfect challenge. I had a braid out earlier this week that couldn't hold up in this heat,so I pulled my hair into a high ponytail for a few days. Yesterday I was in desperate need of a good wash so I did just that. I had also picked up the Eco styler gel in Pink for curls and waves and decided to give it a try.  Below is my hair at about 60% dry. Last night I pulled it into a pineapple, another thing that I haven't done in years and put a large bonnet on my hair. My hair where protected and I was able to sleep comfortably I might even revisit the satin pillow case. I say all of this because when I first big chopped I wanted the wash and go to work for me but it didn't. But I now think the reason it didn't work was because I didn't know the right gels to use and my nighttime routine was for longer hair. I'm hoping that I can get at least 5 day hair out of this wash and go...if I do this maybe my summer staple.

Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone: May

So often I spend the whole week at work waiting for the weekend and then when it comes around I am camped out on the couch and glued to the tv. Although, it is good to relax and lay around being lazy...sometimes you need to get out and shake a tail feather lol. So every weekend this past month I did just that I was out and having a good time with my friends and enjoying life.

The Weekend

So I blew my hair out on Thursday afternoon. The next day overwhelmed and overheated (I'm hot natured) I pulled into a low pony with a braid, see the pics below. And happy unofficial start of summer!!

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone: April

Hmmm this month seemed like a blur I swear this year is flying by. Anyhoo, I participated in a Green smoothie challenge and really enjoyed it. I'm not a vegetable girl at all and the thought of drinking a smoothie of 95% spinach seemed gross but I took the challenge and now can't get enough of them. I am going for a goal if having 100 green smoothies in May! My energy level has improved and my skin is glowing!

Braids Are Back!

I know it seems like has been weeks since my last blog post but work and life have been extremely busy for me and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. Anyhoo, Friday night I came home after a long week and washed my hair and then decided to braid it again. I used the Jamaican mango and lime locking gel and I love the results. For some strange reason this look only took me 5 hours last year was 12...I'm not gonna complain lol. I did braid my hair wet and the twist the ends so maybe that is what shortened the time.

Flexi Rods on Twists

So I wore my hair in those twists for almost two weeks. The started to look old so I took them out last night and wash my hair, but Thursday night I set them and flexirods and loved the look that it created, see below.

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone: March

So a few years ago I was out every weekend with friends, but lately I am in bed by 10 on the weekends. Well two of my friends decided that we all needed to go out and blow of some steam from a long work week, and I ended up in a raggae club in a dress and heels. Which if you guys haven't heard me say this by now I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl so it is very rare that I will go out to a club and even more rare that I would have on a dress and heels. Anyhoo, we went out and I danced until 3 am which was a first especially because it was a raggae club and I could barely understand the music, but I had so much fun!
XOXO,

Flat Twists

So I was in serious need of a protective style I can always tell because I become frustrated with my hair and think about shaving my head. So I washed my hair and parted it in half and flat twisted the front and then placed the back and ends in medium sized twists. I plan to keep this style in for about 2-3 weeks while I plan what my next protective style will be...stay tuned!
XOXO,
TwistedMarie

Flat Twist And A Braided Ponytail

So I'm still recovering from that roller set, I deep conditioned my hair last night and then washed it this morning. I used my new love GVP Paul Mitchell's "The Conditioner" and Ecostyler gel. First off I used a old school conditioning cap that I picked up from the beauty supply store. My friend wanted me to install Marley twist in her hair and while she grabbed the hair I roamed the aisle and found this cap. Anyhoo, once I got home last night I put some of the Koilsbynature into my hair pulled it in a high bun and put the cap on. I slept in it for about 8 hours and then washed my hair. It was so soft and super easy to detangle, I was in and out of the shower in 20 minutes. So I wanted to do something quick with my hair and did this style below. See the pics below and keep an eye out for the review.
