Today's hair

Hey yall,
So for the past few weeks I had been attempting but failing at some wash and gos, so I thought last night I should shingle my hair. So I jumped in to the shower and once out was faced with what product to use to do my hair and in the back of my shelf was Kiss My Face Upper Management, now yall remember a while back I tried to use this gel to do a twist out and it wasn't what I had imagined. Well of course I decided to take my chances and figured if I did my hair at night and it didn't turn out right I would wake up early to fix it. ( I know this is a hair rule that I break all the time!) Anyhoo, I decided to shingle and put my hair half up and half down to minimize frizz. Right when I was about to blog last night my power was out for two hours due to a horrible thunderstorm that had hit Atlanta so these pics below are of my hair after it has completely dried and shrunk! Enjoy

P.S. Oh I plan on making a trip to Whole Foods to stock up on more yay!

The best hair pic I think I have ever taken

So yeah I think I am going to stop fighting the red hair!

Braid-n-Twist

Hey yall,
So from my last post "If At First You Don't Succeed" I was trying to get my braid out method down pack and I feel like I did. So what I did last night was use just a little bit of Shea Moisture and placed my hair in about 10 braids to set it, but twisted the ends once I got far enough down the braid and it was a hit! I was so excited this morning I must have taken about 20 pics of it, but I posted a few of them for yall to see. Enjoy!

Coming Soon Styles

Hey yall,
So I have been wanting to try some new styles since it is Spring. Well I have been on youtube trying to teach myself two new styles the fishtail hair braid( I feel like my hair might have to streched or straight to achieve this look, but I still try ) and the three- strand twist. Now I know that these styles are all over the internet and youtube but I am not the best with directions I admit, but I am still hoping that I can accomplish these two styles stay tuned!

If At First You Don't Succeed...

Hey yall,
So this past week has been like a blur to me, my schedule changed at work and I had a hard time trying to adjust to working during the day like normal people but I seem to be getting the hang of it (having Friday and Saturday off is always good!) Anyhoo, last week was wash day and honestly I can't remember what day I did it but I decided to attempt a braid out because I feel like I have a pretty good twist method and I was craving a change. So I attempted to do a braid out after wearing a ponytail for a few days and well I woke up took down the braids and my hair was still damp. I knew that this was a lesson learned because I broke one of the hair rules "Not attempting a new style the night before work!" So the following day I pulled my hair until a bun and then attempted to do it again last night. Yet again broken rule and attempted to do another braid out before work, when will I learn right? So today while at work with nothing else to do I decided to research on how to get the braid out method down. After spending sometime searching blogs I ran across a post that Curly Nikki had and decided to do a dry braid out since it takes forever for my hair to dry and then twisted the ends, I guess you could call it a Braid and Twist. Stay tuned for the pics tomorrow!

Attention: I Heart Curls Was Born Yesterday!

Hey yall,
So as yall know for the past few months I have been tinkering around with making my own hair products and starting an online store. Well back in March I had decided on opening but because of a vendor that I decided to try out my order was late and I decided to push the open date back until May. Yesterday I woke with a long list of things to do and one thing was to buy a stand mixer to mix up my new products. Once I got home I noticed the jars that I had received from Camden Grey months ago and BOOM a fire was lit under me. I turned up my itunes and begun mixing and before I knew "I Heart Curls " was born and is now open for business on etsy. I am so excited because this idea has been in the corner of my mind since this time last year and I had  no clue where or how to start. Now one thing that I do admit is that I have learned so much from the natural hair blogs and researching is definitely the biggest thing. I am so happy that I have a name because I struggled with that idea as well. So please know that I am not here to force anybody or mass market to yall my items(I refuse to push my own product, but others yes!) (I'm joking) but I am just proud that I have finally done it, I feel like a proud Momma. LOL.

Twisted Bun

Hey yall,
I just wanted to let yall know what is going on with my hair this week, Tuesday night I washed my hair with the usual routine. I decided to pull my hair up since I had been wanting to do a high bun and then twisted the lose hair. Once I got up the next morning my hair was still damp so I tucked the twist under and have been rocking them in a bun, I plan to wear it out tomorrow. See the pics below of the look.

Chunky Hair

Hey yall,
So it has been a few days since my last post about my henna and indigo treatment. I must say that I have gotten a few comments on how dark my hair looks and I love it. Well last night after hanging out I came home and decided to re-twist my hair I pulled half up and the rest down. I used a little bit of water so I could work with my hair and then some of the SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. This morning when I woke up I took out the twist and noticed that my hair was not tightly twisted. Once I got to work, my hair was slightly big but it looked like a cross between a wash and go and a twist out because it is really defined but also chunky. I must admit I love the look and am hoping to be able to repeat it on Wednesday my next wash day. See the pics below.

TwistedMarie
Ok so yall know I am mine own camera woman excuse the angle on this pic!

I see the brown(red) in my hair coming back, maybe I should stop fighting my red hair, this is as dark as the indigo will make it. Oh well!

Happy Birthday to A Truly Phenomenal Woman!!!

Hey yall,
I just wanted to take the time out to say Happy Birthday to Ms. Maya Angelou she is a true legend and such a inspiration, see one of my favorites below!

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I Am Such A Product Junkie!!!

Hey yall,
Despite all my attempts to avoid the fact that SheaMoisture was introduced to Walgreens this week and endless tweets and blog post about how the products would be on sale for bogo this week, I had just about managed to stay strong and keep away from purchasing. But yesterday a tweet caught my eye stating that if SheaMoisture was sold out in stores, it could still be purchased online and get this the shipping was free. I tried to ignore this and before I knew it, I woke up earlier then usual today and was on my way to Walgreens before work. I walked into the store and headed straight for the beauty section and right on the shelf was the very last two jars of SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I quickly grabbed them from the shelf and bolted to the checkout counter when I got to the front the lady commented on how adorable my hair was and then asked "What is this? A hair smoothie?" I laughed and tried to explain to her how popular it was and that I had to have it because it was sold out everywhere and she just laughed at me. Once I got in the car I let out a "I got the last two! Yes!" Driving into work all I could think in my head was "Hello, my name is TwistedMarie, and I am a Product Junkie!"

I Begun This Journey Almost 3 Years Ago !!!

Hey yall,
It completely slipped my mind that last month was my anniversary since my last relaxer, I remember it just like it was yesterday. It was 3 years ago and a friend of mine was going to a girl to get her hair done and asked me to go with her. After the last relaxer that I had in Christmas of 07 I thought that would be my last. But fast forward to February and I am in the chair getting relaxed up. The girl did an ok job but as soon as she finished I knew that would be my last one. I had no clue on what I would do with my hair, but I knew that relaxing it for the rest of my life wasn't an option. I recently spoke with a friend that saw a picture of me and she asked if I ever straightened my hair and I told her " Nope I am having too much fun wearing it curly!" See the pics of me below from when I was transitioning.

Henna and Indigo Part II

Hey curlies,
It was that time again for me to henna, so Tuesday night when I got home from work I broke out my henna bar and prepared for a long night. I prepared my henna and indigo mix the same as before boiling hot water since it was already packed with awesomeness from LUSH I also didn't need for the dye to release. I allowed the mixture to cool and then applied and left on my hair for a total of 4 hours. The last time I left it on for 8 hours and I think that my hair looks just as dark as before. The only part that took the longest was washing out the henna I had coffee grounds everywhere so I rinsed for about an hour in total. Once I was finished I conditioned with TJ Nourish Spa and then allowed my hair to air dry a bit. Once it did I then placed my twist for a twist out. The weather has been kind of wet and rainy here in Atlanta so I plan to rock this twist out and then maybe attempt to shingle my hair ( I haven't done this method in a while). See the pics below from my twist out results.
XOXO,
TwistedMarie

(My hair looks kind of dark brown and not really black.)

( I know it is hard for yall to see the color but I adore Black and White photos!)

(Up close view )

( My only mishap was a splash of henna on the bathroom door!)
