Sun Colored Hair

Hey yall,
I came across this picture of myself from last summer when I went to the Bahamas look at how red my hair is thanks to the sun, I don't plan on fighting it anymore lol. Once I take my twists down I plan to wear my hair out and do a henna treatment before twisting it back up, this will be a summer style for me to get through this heat!

Twists Day #17

Hey yall,
This heat has been to the extreme these past few days so I am very thankful for these mini twists I haven't done too much to them since I co-washed the other day. I am still doing the same maintence since last week I have been oiling my scalp with castor oil and a castor oil and aloe vera gel mix for the ends. See the pictures below! ENJOY :)

TM

***I achelieved this simple style by braiding my hair in one big braid from side to the other and let the braid hang free and then let the rest free. The shine from the castor oil is amazing!***

Going Natural Aint For Everybody....

Hey yall,
So before yall fly off the handle and burn me at the stake for this post title hear me out first, I promise you will enjoy this.  I was super busy this week at work and on Friday what should have been my off day at 530 I was running out of the office, just as I went past a co-workers office I waved and inteded on moving on but she motioned for me to come in (I thought great I've only been here for 60 plus hours this week and you need help too!?! ) Openning the door I walked in to a room of women co-workers and said "hey yall what's up?" Everybody paused and said Shtonia(my first name lol) how did you do your hair? I laughed and let out a sigh of relief I am always in the mood to talk hair can't you tell?  Anyhoo, I explanined my process and how long it took me and got a comment that really took me off guard. Three out of the four females I learned are tranisitioning and one is already natural. The girl that was traninsitioing maybe six months replied "so has your hair always been curly or did it start looking like you just came off the boat?" I stopped and tried to think before I answered and said "well I'm not sure of what you mean my hair has always been curly, why would you say like you just came off a boat? She laughed and went on to say "my hair is nappy and thick, I don't want to wear it without a weave because people will see how nappy it is." After this comment I couldn't take it, I told her I went natural not because I wanted curly hair, I did it because I wanted to know my hair outside of a relaxer( having curls was a beautiful surprise and added bonus!) As if this was not enough she went on to ask me what I was mixed with, annoyed at this point I stated "Black and Blacker!" She could see that I was extremely annoyed and said "I didn't mean any offense." The room grew silent for a minute and then I spoke and said "going natural is not easy, you have to deal with a lot your texture change, family, friends and co-workers opinions and much more, but one thing that helps is doing it for the right reasons. Of course this is a challenge but if you do it for the wrong reasons you will not be satisfied, as I always say "what you put into it you get out of it ten fold!" I could tell at this point I sounded like I was talking to a blank wall because she completely shut down on me I said my goodbyes and left.

This is something I wanted to share with yall, I started this journey with no clue as to what I was doing I just knew that I was determined to make it work and I kind of think this is exactly what I am doing! :)

I Tried To Make A Dress

Hey yall,
So as I have mentioned before to yall  I have a creative bone, well maybe I have an idea to create stuff. Growing up my Mom would always make stuff for my sister and I so, maybe I get this from her. Anyhoo, last week while at work I was looking around online for a colorful maxi dress and I couldn't find anything so I went right to the fabric store. I found a pretty colorful print and got it in about a yard and a half, which is really long but unfortunatly not enough to cover the girls( I know Tmi sorry yall) so I plan on going back to purchase two yards soon. See a pic of the print below!

Twist Day# 8

Hey yall,
Happy Friday! Nothing much has been going on with my twist except for yesterday I did do a co- wash and I plan to start styling them soon. Since it has been over a week, I feel that my twists are their final size and especially after I co-washed yesterday. I have been getting several comments from people asking me if I have kinky- twists so I am assuming I did a good job lol. See the pics below

Product Junkie Alert!!!

Hey yall,
I know yall know about my habit there are so many products that I have been hearing a great deal about and I have decided that for this summer at least I will be putting myself on a product junkie budget, this really works especially because I plan to alternate between twist and wearing my hair out. The other day I decided to create a list of stuff that I have been dying to review so stay tuned for Product Junkie Alert Reviews :)

Hair Update

Hey yall,
So last Sunday it was late and I was looking at my twist out from a few days before and thought I wonder how long this twist out will last seeing that the weather is supposed to be in the 90s( I am not complaining at all) so I decided to put in my mini twist. Ok I know what yall are thinking a few months ago I put in some twist and they lasted maybe a week, before I took them out this time was different. Since my hair was strecthed from the twist out I decided to try a different method I started from the back of my hair and moved my way foward and this allowed me to put the front of my hair in a bun for work because....these twist took five days to complete. Yes you read right, five days to complete! I wanted to make sure that these twist would allow me to style them and keep them in for an entire month. See the breakdown below and the pics to follow :)
Process: I  twsited my hair with Nothin But Butters to moisturize, I only used my fingers to part the hair. Since my ends had been strected I only twisted the hair about 3/4 the way down and then once finished wet the ends for a curly look
Time: As stated above this look took me five days to complete a lot true, but I only worked on my hair for about 2-3 hours a night while watching tv.
Maintence: I am using castor oil to keep my scalp moisturized and grapseed oil for the ends which I apply about every three days or as needed, I plan to co-wash once a week. At night I pull my hair up with a lose satin scrunchie and then cover with my bonnet.
Styles: With the way I twisted my hair it is really endless as of right now I am wearing them down, but do stay tuned for new ones.
*In all I plan to keep these in for one month and do the same regimine that I had for the winter which was, alternating between twist and wearing my hair down or out for a month. The only thing that I plan to do different next time is blow-dry my hair on low heat to strecth it as much as possible.*

Twist Takedown From My Jasmin and Henna Fluff- Eaze

Hey yall,
So first I want to go back and apologize for whatever reason the other day I was confusing the name, it is LUSH: Jasmin and Henna Fluff- Eaze so forgive for mixing the name up. Anyhoo, I snapped a few pics yesterday and wanted to share them with yall. It was such a busy day I was so tired once I got home I dozed off and forgot to post them, yesterday my sister and I took my Mom out for Mother's day to see Jumping the Broom (great funny movie, go see it if you haven't already!) My hair still smelled great yesterday when I took down my twist my Mom kept asking what smell did I have on in the car!
XOXO,
TwistedMarie

It looks shorter because I made the twist too tight but oh well, it will loosen up in a few days :)

LUSH:Henna and Jasmin Fluff-Eaze Review

Hey yall,
So about 2 months ago I purchased the Henna and Jasmin Fluff- Eaze from LUSH and was given a huge sample of it, the bag stayed in my hallway until yesterday morning I knocked it over. Thinking that I wanted to deep condition my hair I came home from work and whipped out this great product from LUSH. My hair was already stretched from the banding attempt on Tuesday so I applied to dry hair as indicated on the pot. My hair soaked it up and I was surrounded with the smell of Jasmin( some reviewers hate the scent but I adore it!) The directions on the pot said to use 1/4 of it for short hair, half a pot for in between hair and the entire pot for long hair. I used half of it and the entire sample I had gotten the same day I purchased it. I then wrapped my hair in saran wrap since I didn't plan on using heat, threw on a scarf and went to sleep. I woke up this morning and my pillow smelled like Jasmin, I unwrapped and rinsed my hair and I must say it was so soft, shiny and tangle free. The past few co-washing sessions I have seen many SSK(single-strand knots) and did a mini search and destroy, the other day when I banded my hair. I decided to twist my hair and let me tell yall there was no need for a comb or my denman I finger combed my hair and twisted my whole head in 15 minutes. I love this stuff and am somewhat upset that I waited so long to use it. I plan to go back to my original idea of using either this or the henna block once a month. Since my hair refuses to stay black from the indigo and henna, I plan to pick up the henna rouge block from LUSH today. See the pics below.
XO,
TwistedMarie
P.S. Stay tuned for my post on tomorrow for the take down! The Henna and Jasmin Fluff-Eaze is $21.95 for a 7.7oz pot and can either be found in there stores or online at http://www.lush.com/

Banded Hair Attempt

Hey yall,
So last night I decided that since my hair was slightly wet(and frizzy) from my shower that I would band my hair. For those of you that are not too familiar with the term banding, it involves placing several bands on the hair to stretch it, most people do it before twist outs to make the style easier to work with and also prevent single strand knots. So I decided that for this style I would pull my hair half up and half down and I did about six sections for the hair that was down and two for the ponytail. I used Goody's Ouchless Hair bands, I was in Wal-Mart the other day and brought a 70 pack for about 7 bucks. Anyhoo, my hair was sightly damp and I used almost the entire pack of bands, hoping to achieve a wavy stretched look. Well this morning when I woke up and took them down which took forever( 30 minutes ) my hair was still damp but mostly straight. Oops! I thought I must have placed too many bands on my hair and it had to be too wet. So I threw my hair in a bun and rushed to work( I know I broke my rule, what's new! lol) Below are the pics of my hair before I removed the bands and a picture after I took them out. I figure this is perfect because I plan on co-washing my hair tomorrow and twisting it for an event that I have to go to on Saturday, so at least I will be getting tangle free hair out of the deal! See the pics below. ENJOY! :)

TwistedMarie

Happy May!

Hey Curlies,
Wow! Can you believe it is already May, this year is flying by. Anyhoo, I wanted to check in with yall about my hair. So for the past few days I have been wearing my hair out from the Kiss My Face Upper Management hair gel and I must admit I loved the results. Today was wash day for me so I decided to give my hair and ends a break and wet bun it. For the look below: I cowashed with TJ Nourish Conditioner, slicked my hair back with Eco styler olive oil gel and then sealed the ends with LUSH's R&B. I made two big twist and was done. See pics below. Enjoy!
XOXO,
TM
P.S. I made the earrings in the pics :)

I adore this pic, best skin day ever!
